Training Day with Osteoporosis Exemplary Care Program Coordinator
Who is the Exemplary Care Program Coordinator?
- Acts as a program consultant for the FCSP
- Involved in training of new OSCs
- Resource for the FCSP (assists with answering questions, etc.)
- Involved with the development of new protocols (i.e. BMD Fast Track) and program document modifications
- The OSC will receive on-site program training at St. Michael’s Hospital with the Osteoporosis Exemplary Care Program Coordinator
- The OSC will learn about the procedures of the program (how to screen/identify and educate patients, etc.) and gain knowledge on the importance of the program and bone health
Training includes:
- Attending Fracture Clinic at St. Michael’s Hospital
- Observing patient/coordinator interaction
- Viewing the DXA machine
- Reviewing FCSP materials
- Meeting the research staff at St. Michael’s Hospital (if available)
It is policy at St. Michael’s Hospital that any individuals external to St. Michael’s Hospital must apply for “observership status” prior to attending any clinic for training, shadowing, etc.
- The St. Michael’s Hospital ‘observership form’ outlines what an observer can and cannot do at St. Michael’s Hospital
- Observers cannot have access to the clinical database, attend staff meetings, be independent in participating with patient care, etc.
- Observers can attend education events and observe clinical care given to a patient, with patient consent. This observership form is completed prior to the OSC’s visit and filed at St. Michael’s Hospital
The Exemplary Care Program Coordinator will organize the submission of the form on behalf of the OSC. The associated RIL will connect with the Exemplary Care Program Coordinator to initiate this process and to determine which documentation may be required
Depending on scheduling, St Michael’s on-site training may occur before or after OSC Shadowing On-site training
